DOWN THROUGH THE YEARS
It is hoped that enjoyment of school life is not reflected by the stern faces of children and teacher shown in this photograph of students attending the Lower Freestone school in 1893. This is the oldest remaining photograph of the shingle roofed Freestone School, which was destroyed by fire in 1902. The teacher leaning on the verandah rail is Mr F Pilgram, who remained at the school until 1903. Laced boots and stockinged legs were among the fashionable attire worn by boys of the period, while white aprons were worn over dresses by the girls.
